Hello Lauren,
This tree fan is so glad to find your website!
How wonderful to work on a handmade book about that one tree in this International Year of Forests, now drawing to a close.
Have found a great past-time in upcycling materials into handmade books.
Best in your 2012 plans!

Thank you for sharing your experience at this fair. Your comments about the bias for digital prints is one I see often. People view it as a process which is too common or simple - anyone could do it themselves.

Thank you also for introducing me to the work of Peter Koch. I also do some work on Japanese washi papers and have had the idea for a handmade book in my head for awhile. I now have a lead for going somewhere with this idea.

As a side note to the printing bias: my washi prints are always admired in a different light by those that have the digital printing bias because they require more from me in preparing, printing, and finishing.

I'm studying photography at the moment and there is a lot fo discussion on forums regarding artists statements. I've found your post very helpful and what's more clear and easy to understand. That's the type of artists statement that I'm aiming for in time. thanks.
